AS Silberauto history began in June 1990, when the contract on establishment of an authorized Mercedes-Benz AG representative office in Estonia was signed in Stuttgart. Six months later, in Tatari street in Tallinn a Mercedes-Benz authorized service and sale point opened, and in spring 1991 sales of used Mercedes-Benz vehicles commenced.
Legal predecessor of AS Silberauto, the MB Eesti Autokeskus joint-stock company, was established in spring 1992, and due to owning independent sale rights it started developing a wide service and sales network. In June 1993 the company was renamed AS Silberauto, and already in September Mercedes-Benz AG and AS Silberauto concluded a regional representation contract. On April 3, 1995, the contract on establishment of the general representative office was concluded between Mercedes-Benz AG and AS Silberauto implying the highest independence level of companies within Mercedes-Benz hierarchy. In 2002, AS Silberauto started to operate at the Lithuanian market. Silberauto representation offices are located in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda.
In 2000, after concluding the contract on establishment of the general representative office with Chrysler International Corporation, under which the company AS Silberauto became Chrysler importer in Estonia and Lithuania, the company expanded the range of brands offered. Since January 2004, AS Silberauto also performs sales and servicing of Mitsubishi cars in Estonia, whereas since 2006 the range includes Mitsubishi Fuso Canter trucks.
In 2003, AS Silberauto started to unify the distribution network into a single enterprise, and by 2007 it resulted in establishment of AS Silberauto Eesti company, comprising the following trade and service centers: Järve and Ülemiste in Tallinn, as well as offices in Maardu, Tartu, Pärnu, Kuressaare, Jõhvi, Viljandi and Rakvere.
Branches and partner companies which had been predecessors of Silberauto representative offices, opened in the Estonian cities in the following years:
Pärnu – June 1993;
Maardu – December 1993;
Kuressaare – November 1994;
Viljandi – January 1997;
Tartu – May 1997;
Rakvere – December 1997;
Keila – April 1998.
AS Silberauto branches provide necessary extra services in the automotive sector. Today, the Silberauto group includes two companies engaged in refurbishment of cars: AS Silwi Autoehitus, active since 1996, and OÜ Tarfurgo active since 2007. Real estate management of the Silberauto group is performed by OÜ Hõbevara.
Since 2011 AS Silberauto is the general representative of the Jeep brand in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
